The truth is that this dead-end street marks the starting point of the esplanade, often the site of executions. Another theory proposes that the street’s narrowness and discreet ambiance, characterized by buildings with small windows, provided couples with privacy to indulge in their passions.

However, the Barcelona City Council highlights that the true story behind the street’s name originates from Joan Potons, a local resident born in the 17th century. He resided on the very street bearing his surname Potons, and it’s possible that, owing to the neighbours, the street’s name evolved into Petons (kisses in Catalan).

 

The World’s Longest Kiss

World Kiss Day emerged from a competition held in Thailand in 2011, where a Thai couple established a world record for the longest kiss, lasting 46 hours, 24 minutes, and 9 seconds. In 2013, the same couple surpassed their own record with a kiss lasting 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds.
